How would you choose essential oil to take care of your hair?

essential oils uses for hair care

What essential oils should I choose to solve different hair issues?

I spend so much time in my scientific aromatherapy books, I am thrilled to share these informations with you.

This post could be used as a guide for hair care with essential oils.

My advice would be to use carrier oil such as coconut oil for mask if you have dry hair or as a scalp massage-carrier oil to fight against dandruffs or hair lost,

Coconut oil for cosmetic diy

to use castor vegetal oil as a carrier oil if you want to focus on hair growth ,

to use crambe abyssinian oil as a carrier oil if you want to realize your DIY hair serum…

tu use as a shampoo, select a neutral organic shampoo and adddrops of your Essential Oils (EO)

If you have dry hair:

♣ sandalwood EO

♣ sage EO

♣ lavender EO

♣ geranium EO

geranium essential oil aromatherapy in cosmetics

♣ rosemary EO

♣ ylang-ylang EO

for a matter of finding the balanced and pleasant fragrance, I use sandalwood with geranium and ylang-ylang…for men, my advice would be sandalwood, lavender and some geranium

If you have oily hair:

♣ rosemary EO

♣ juniper EO

♣ sage EO

♣ tea tree EO

♣ grapefruit EO

grapefruit essential oil aromatherapy

♣ cypres EO

♣ cedarwood EO

♣ lemongrass EO

♣ petit-grain EO

♣ lemon EO

♣ basil EO

♣ lavender EO

Lavender for essential oil

For mature women, I find interresting to use sage EO as well as lavender, both are considered to be a natural hormon balance.

Petit grain has interresting properties for your immune system and it smells nice,  cypres is an excellent tonic for your lymphatic system, cedarwood and lavender are great to use in the evening since they both have relaxing effects

For more infos you can read my posts about how cedarwood help us to fall asleep or how  lavender essential oil improving our wellbeing

If you have dandruffs:

♣ tea tree EO

♣ sandalwood EO

♣ bergamot EO

♣ lavender EO

♣ rosemary EO

♣ petit-grain EO

♣ cedarwood EO

♣ sage EO

♣ patchouli EO

Patchouli has wonderful benefits on hair and scalp, however….it has…kind of…a strong fragrance. For that reason I like to blend it with bergamot and tea tree…which are both giving good benefits on scalp too (tea tree has great effects as anti micotic agent)…and these essential oils are bringing a fresh and green scent to the blend

If you have hair lost:

♣ rosemary EO

♣ lemon EO

♣ juniper EO

♣ geranium EO

♣ ginger EO

Ginger is a great tonic essential oil, it also have great anti inflammatory benefits

If you have brittle, lifeless, damaged hair:

♣ ylang-ylang EO

♣ sage EO

♣ camomile EO

♣ lemongrass EO

♣ lavender EO

♣ sandalwood EO

♣ geranium EO

♣ lemon EO

♣ rosemary EO

For this hair condition, my choice is always turning around lavender, lemon and geranium….a real plus….geranium fragrance is really pleasant

I have dull hair and if I apply any kind of oil or oil based lotion, my scalp tends to get itchy and hair starts falling, shall I use the essential oils mentioned here of hair loss with the usual carried coconut oil?

So sorry for this late answer….I traveled a lot lately and …missed your message. If you experience scalp reaction with oil, my first question would be, are you using pure and organic vegetables and essential oils ( if you use oil with preservatives that would be the first thing to eliminate), are you allergic to specific substances you are aware of? Are you using essential oil pure ( note diluted)? Usually, the reactions I see are due to the use of the wrong dilution and the wrong essential oils, and or with preservatives.
However, we all have our own sensitivity….if you scalp still react badly with all the precautions, my advise would be to apply clay masks mixed with kapoor kachli Ayurvedic powder. This powder is famous to give strength and texture to dull hair. Reinforcing your hair, offering some shine. It has great anti oxidant benefits and has a pleasant fragrance. If oils are an issue for you…I would go for plants powders……don’t hesitate if you have more questions….and please come back to give me your comments after using these powders.

[…] Peoni’s powder is used to sooth irritated scalp, this powder is especially recommended in case of scalp itching related with dandruff. In this case the best way to use it is under the form of dry shampoo. Peoni’s powder is mixed with iris powder or arrow-root powder, a few drops of essential oils can be added to complete the scalp treatment.
