A simple and easy DIY for a safe homemade shower gel

homemade shampoo with castille soap

The last time I came back home with a shower gel, I found the smell so delightful…so persistant…and the price so cheap…I decided to check on the label…

It was more than 10 years ago…what I found out didn’t make me happy.

See at the bottom a list of dangerous ingredients commonly found in liquid soaps and why they are dangerous.

So I went back to my Marseille soap, the equivalent of Castille soap, but from south of France. Back to my olive oil soap…and its fresh but not heady long lasting fragrance.

If you have ever seen an authetic Marseille soap, you understand it’s not easy to travel with it…

So I came up with my own recipe for a liquid shower gel. It is then easy to transport, you can add many different kind of natural fragrances thanks to essential oils.

Ingredients needed to realize your own DIY Safe shower gel

homemade moisterizing shower gel from castille soap

I usually prepare a lot of gel in advance and use it under the shower as well as for  hand washing.

-1/2 liter of mineral water

-1 table-spoon of mapple syrup

-6 table spoons of ylang ylang hydrosol (rose hydrosol is fine also)

-300 grams of castile soap, my advice is to use my diy recipe of castile soap, or to keep all your tiny pieces/leftovers of soaps…be sure to use only natural castile or marseille soap… industrial soaps such as dove are packed with dangerous ingredients…

-10 drops of lemon essential oil

-15 drops of ylang ylang essential oil, or jasmine essential oil

-6 drops of geranium essential oil

-10 drops of grapefruit seed extract

-1 table-spoon of abyssinian oil (optional) if you want an extra moisture shower gel. I use it so my skin is never dry…and I barely need extra moisterizing cream after the shower…up to your need…and whishes…

How to proceed to prepare your shower gel:

– Cut your soap in small cubes

– pour all your ingredients into a jar and use a blender or pour all your ingredients into your food processor (it will be easy to clean and will not present any dangerosness to use for food afterward…just imagine…you use dish washer liquid soap full of chemicals all year long…in this soap, it is mainly vegetal oils….your blender will be clean:) )

– blend untill you obtain a creamy homogeneous texture

– If you find your gel too consistent, too jelly like, add some more mineral water and mix again

Your shower gel is ready to use…enjoy!!!

My tip for today:

I use recycled glass mapple syrup bottles. If you prefere plastic bottles, you can use a recycled honey container or even agave syrup container…for traveling it’s perfect, it is an anti driping dispenser!

The dangerous ingredients found in industrial shower gels:

Diethanolamine or DEA is a dangerous liver and kidney carcinogen, it also blocks the absorbtion of some nutrients essential for the brain, so it is consdered a neurotoxic ingredient

Triclosan is a pesticide and bactericide. It is known to be a breast carcinogen

Formaldehyde is found in liquid soaps and can cause respiratory problems. It is also at the origin of extreme fatigue and immune issues

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a dangerous ingredient present in multiple cosmetic ingredients such as shampoo, skin cleanser, toothpast….but it is also found in engines or oven degreasers. It can provoque skin and eyes irritations and is transforming in a substance highly carcinegenic. It is also a hormon disrupter…this ingredient has nothing to please me..and is really…I mean really present in almost any cleaning product on the market…just check by yourself…even Lush is using sodium lauryl sulfate and is claiming to be natural.

Parabens breast cancer, neurological toxicity, hormon mimicking…it has it all…

Fragrance , if from chemicals and not natural (essential oils), these chemical fragrances are provoquing headaches, behavioral disorders, rashes and irritation

I only selected the main and most dangerous ingredients present in any shower gel…but we can find more, just check on this post about 515 toxic chemicals into your daily cosmetic

And be aware, the ingredients you apply on your skin are penetrating into your bloodstream and is bio accumulative (it is staying into your body)

Depending on your choice of essential oils, you will already travel thanks to your shower gel.

The very creamy texture is not extra foaming, but is a very effective cleansing which will leave your skin hydrated….

I really enjoy using it on my brand new konjac vegetal cleansing spone

Thank you for reading my post

I hope you enjoyed it…and will enjoy your shower gel

Be beautifull thanks to nature
